With 30kg less weight thanks to a regulation amendment and the smooth fast surface of the wide Silverstone GP track, all the 911 cars were going to be fast.

Gary took a while to adjust to the weight difference, managing only 8th in qualifying for the first race and 9th for the 2nd, the lowest he has been for a long time, so it was all to do in the races.

Race 1

As the lights went green Gary made a fantastic start, slipping past 2 cars into 6th as the pack entered copse for the first time. As they raced through the complex and out on the hanger straight, Gary was able to gain another place and get up to 5th, only to go wide into club on cold tyres and lose a couple of places, tucking in behind Marcus Carneil.

He had a good battle with Marcus, eventually passing him and Jeremey Clark to settle back into 5th, but by this time the top 4 were a long way ahead and with only 10 minutes of racing there was not enough time to close the gap, so Gary finished a respectable 5th, with great podium potential for race 2 if he could get through the midfield faster.

Race 2

Starting from 9th this time meant Gary had more work to do, but he made another superb start, jumping into 6th just after copse, making 3 places off the line. As he followed Richard Higgins down through the complex he got a great exit onto the hanger straight and was able to drive around the outside of Richard on the run down to Stowe, grabbing the inside line on the entry. Mark McAleer had gone wide at Stowe, allowing Gary to close in on 4th place and by the time both of them exited Vail, Gary was very close and lining Mark up to take 4 place.

Unfortunatly, both Mark and Gary braked late for Abbey, Gary a little too late causing him to tap Mark into a spin. This spin would have been relativly harmless but Marks car span through 180 degrees and accidentally collected Garys on the way round, sending both of them into the gravel and out of the race!

So from 9th to 4th in less than a lap was one of the best sets of corners Gary has ever raced, but unfortunatly he never made a full lap, retiring from the race with a broken rear hub and a few scratches to the rear wing.

A sad end to the 2009 season, but Gary is very confident the 993 is now ready to win and feels a championship could be had next season.

Roll on 2010!
